It is a contemporary form of the two traditional ways of serving sushi or sashimi: Nyotaimori, literally translated as “presentation of the female body” or “served on a woman” and Nantaimori, which refers to presentation on the male body. Whether the model is a man or a woman, it is the human body that is treated as the most sophisticated crockery one may afford.
The naked sushi idea began during the samurai period in Japan as a subculture to the geishas. The feast would take place in a geisha house as a celebration for a victory in battle.
